The word "Magnan" comes from the Occitan manhan or the Italian magnatto which means "silkworm". It would be derived by popular etymology from the Roman dialect magnar "to eat", because of the voracity of the silkworm.
The Magnanerie was the place where the silkworms were fed so that they would transform into cocoons. In our case, the women worked in the attic of the main building then fitted out with terracotta tiles on the floor and drainage systems for dirty water.
The main building has 4 guest rooms dedicated to silk work; "Cocon", "Nymphe", Chrysalide" and finally "Fil de soie".
The "Petit Magnan" is the name we gave to this magnificent building that we have just had completely restored while keeping, of course, the soul it had at the time.
Without much certainty, we date it from the middle of the 19th century because we do not have much information on the Cheviré estate (manor house located on the left when you enter the Magnanerie and which was the Seigneurie of these places at that time).
Located a few meters from the main house and its 4 guest rooms, the cottage is completely autonomous. It includes a space of 35m² on the ground floor with an American-style kitchen, a lounge area with TV and a toilet.
Upstairs a double bedroom of 35m² that can accommodate a 3rd bed, an office area with internet access or Wi-Fi. A bathroom with walk-in shower, sink and toilet.
