Former refuge of the "chauffeurs" of the Middle Age,
Vieux Chateau is known among rock climbers for being blessed with challenging cliffs on the pink granite "Rocks of Sainte Catherine" (unique in France, it seems) and by many picturesque hiking trails.
A village of only 103 inhabitants, Vieux Chateau is perched on the submit on ancient hills carved by the Seirein, a small shallow river with a gentle flow so typical will find, without a doubt, wild and colorful plant life and many activities ( fishing, hiking, swimming......)
Village life revolves around a small square shaded by old lime trees. Several active farms and some old middle-class homes make Vieux Chateau a lovely little Burgundian village
