St Tropez has an exceptional artistic heritage and the tradition continues as painters set up their aisles along the old harbor. But the best lesson in the art of St Tropez comes from a  visit to the Musée de l'Annonciade located along the coastal front.

The collection of early nineteenth-century avant-garde art at the Musée de l'Annonciade began when Paul Signac, a Divisionist, began painting the vibrant streets, tranquil harbor and beautiful landscapes of St Tropez in 1892. By the nineteen-twenties St Tropez had attracted hordes of avant-garde artists (even Matisse) and a substantial amount of reputable artwork became a part of the collection at the Musée de l'Annonciade.
